About this event

Professionals who work with children but do not specialize in trauma treatment may find themselves unsure of how to respond when a child discloses abuse. This training provides essential guidance on gathering minimal facts while avoiding leading or suggestive questions, understanding the forensic interview process, and supporting non-offending caregivers. Participants will also learn how to assess whether a child may need specialized trauma treatment and how to make appropriate referrals. By gaining these foundational skills, professionals can respond in a way that is trauma-informed, supportive, and aligned with best practices. Learning Objectives 1. Learn how to gather only minimal facts when a child discloses abuse. 2. Understand the forensic interview process and the roles of different professionals involved. 3. Respond to disclosures in a trauma-informed way that prioritizes the child’s safety and well-being. 4. Assess when a child may require specialized trauma treatment. 1.5 CEUs Change the Conversation will issue Category A Continuing Education Units through the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists Pro Bono Counseling will issue Category 1 Continuing Education Units through the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners
